Lifestyle. Education. Disney.

Hello Lovlies,

Gosh I am so sorry that it has been such a long time since posting. These last couple of months have been crazy! I finished my first year of teaching, mum started chemo and I was offered  permanency with EQ. Oh I also broke my first bone ever, my elbow to be precise.. and no, this isn't all part of a fictional movie, it's all happening in Maddie's World.

Today I am talking about SAMMIMIS Turkish Towels! I've had it for about 2 weeks now and as you guys know, even when given a deadline, I wait a few weeks before reviewing or blogging about anything in order to stay true to myself and give you guys an honest, reliable view on things. I also NEVER allow companies to tell me what to say to you all, so after two weeks of 'trying' to trial this towel (in this awful rain) I finally have a review of some sort.

I received the blue and baby pink striped towel from their collection and I really like the colour scheme. It reminds me of a vintage seaside towel or a beach lounger. SAMMIMIS Turkish Towels are 100% Turkish Cotton so I was expecting amazing quality, but it isn't that great. I love the quality but I wouldn't say it was the nicest feeling towel around, but according to their website, because of the 100% real Turkish Cotton, the more you wash your towel the softer it gets! I do like how it is versatile and I have been using it as a cover up on the rare occasions we've had in the sun these past few weeks!

One thing to mention is that SAMMIMIS have the largest range of Turkish Towels so definitely check out their website and have a browse.

All in all, a towel is a towel. I love the size of this one, the colours and the little tassels. The quality isn't what I imagined but we will se after a few washes. It's perfect for summer and lying by the pool and if you are into genuine Turkish items then you should definitely check them out.

Take care beautiful people x

Ps. Thank you to my friend who helped me copy and paste this post due to be in a sling! Thank you for all your well wishes as well. New video soon I promise!

So... aaah. A blog post you guys have been waiting for.. or not? Who knows. A lot of you guys have been concerned about my lack of motivation, fashion posts, Instagram posts, youtube videos and just all round whereabouts during the last few weeks. Most of you know I am a full time Primary School teacher, as well as a blogger, Youtuber and social influencer/creator.. so I think most of you always give me the benefit of the doubt when I am away for a bit and assume I am just EXTRA busy. So I didn't really need to write this post, but I am anyway.

I have almost over 36K of you on Youtube (and rapidly rising), a few of you on here and over 7K of you on Instagram. I think it would be absolutely ludicrous of me not to use my 'following' as a good thing and as a way to get the message out about this and to raise awareness.

2 weeks ago (I think.. time is going crazy fast) my poor beautiful mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In fact, she has two types in her breast, one that is early stage breast cancer because it was caught very early and one that is a bad type of cancer.. well they're all bad, but I guess a more invasive type of cancer that will do it's best to spread like mad. SO FAR SO GOOD.

Mum has had little to no time to come to a decision about what to do. Doctor's say, they have caught it early, so can remove the breast and lymph nods etc..  which is what mum will do. But until they have the breast tissue and all of that gunky stuff under the microscope, they won't know if it has spread to her armpit lymph nods. Following? This means, we are not quite sure if mum will need radiation or chemo just yet.

I am incredibly positive and incredibly thankful for the Australian system for essentially so far saving my mums life.

You see, my Great Gran had Breast Cancer and my gorgeous Granny and several others in between going way way back. Cancer is a HUGE part of my family unfortunately and I have always been surrounded by it and lost 2 souls to it. I am not a negative person, but I would have to be stupid not to think one of us, being my mum or myself would get Breast Cancer. I just didn't think it could be ALL OF US, for generations to come.

If you didn't know this already, this is why I am writing this. There are two genes called BRCA1 and BRCA2. These are passed down from either sides of your parents families. Now it doesn't mean that everyone will carry the gene, so I am staying hopeful, but being realistic if you have had one or more females in your family (AT LEAST) diagnosed under the age of 50.. you have to be prepared.

Breast cancer: About 12 percent of women in the general population will develop breast cancer sometime during their lives (4). By contrast, according to the most recent estimates, 55 to 65 percent of women who inherit a harmful BRCA1 mutation and around 45 percent of women who inherit a harmful BRCA2 mutation will develop breast cancer by age 70 years (5, 6).

My Granny was diagnosed at 59 and my Mum at 47. That is a large gap in between the ages, meaning it is getting lower each time. My mum will undergo the genetic testing first, and if she is positive then I will almost definitely be positive. If she is not, then I will thank my lucky stars. Doctor's asked my mum how old I was in order to 'calm my nerves' I guess, and they have said if I took away 10 years from mums diagnosis, that is how long I could essentially keep my boobs.

But hey... why put yourself through that? Always knowing that one day you'll have to have the chop. That is why I think, if I am positive, I will have my breasts removed in my early 30s or sooner depending.

I digress. So, that's it guys, that is why I have been absent a little. My mum is fine, I am fine and we are all incredibly positive, this is nothing new and certainly isn't anything we cannot handle!! I am only announcing this on here and no where else, so if you have read this, Thank you! Please remember to always check your breasts, self check, there are plenty of videos on Youtube. Even get your mum to check.. it's not 'gross or embarrassing' it can save your life. If you believe you have a history of Breast Cancer in your family and you are my age (23) and concerned.. go and talked to a genetic councillor. I will be! You can get tested for the gene.

I will keep you updated and I hope this makes sense!

Today I am sharing with you all my 5 must know tips for when you are on your teaching internship. If I knew these when I was going on my internship or even just my final pracs, I swear life at a beginning teacher would have been a lot easier.

NUMBER ONE:

In this article I am going to be talking a lot about how teachers are a community of sharers, and that it is okay to borrow information, ideas and resources or even just been inspired by other teachers and how they teach. In fact, I really do suggest that even as a beginning teacher you aim to observe at least 3 other teachers in action per term in order to add to your own teaching toolkit.

This leads me to the first major tip for you when you're on your internship. USE PINTEREST on a daily basis. Pinterest will be your guiding light through your internship and through teaching. It is full of ideas, and resources and I just find other amazing teachers and their blogs on there which I am so inspired by. A lot of teachers in Australia don't use pinterest and/or have never even heard about it. So your ideas and creativity are bound to stand out to the school you are at and your mentoring teacher.

NUMBER TWO:

Photocopy everything you can find and add it to your teaching resources folder (with your mentors permission of course). Photocopy how they organise their reading groups, their timetable, their homework, how they do maths warm-ups.. the whole shebang! One thing I regret not taking advantage of, was the fact that my mentor teacher told me 'go through all my folders and take whatever you want' and I didn't because I felt bad. Now I wish I could remember how she structured her reading groups and phonics lessons. These are two things I am currently struggling with (organisation wise).

NUMBER THREE:

This tip may or may not get you a job at your internship school so listen up! I did this, and was told the only reason I didn't get offered a job was simply because there were no positions to be filled (thinking back at it I am glad because I love the school I am at now and couldn't love my job anymore than I do) but I know a lot of you will be stressing about finding a job after your internship.

Hold a 'culminating afternoon' or day.  This is where you can showcase to your mentor, your students parents, other teachers and even possibly the principal of the school what you have done on your entire internship and the journey you have taken with the students. I filmed the excursion we went on and edited it into a cool movie and then played that for parents and family with popcorn, treats and students work displayed. It was super fun and very rewarding.

My mentor told me that an old pre-service student of hers held a whole cultural day for the school and was offered permanency on the spot! So it does work.

There you have it, my secrets and MUST DO tips!

Leave your burning questions and comments below as always.

Hello Gorgeous people!

Today I wanted to talk to you about the new 'Chelsea Necklace' which has recently been released by the amazing company 'Naked Pearls' based in Melbourne. This post is way overdue, but it has given me a great amount of time to really appreciate this gorgeous piece before sharing my honest thoughts and opinions with you all.

The Chelsea Necklace is unlike any necklace I have ever owned. It exudes class, professionalism and beauty. I have never owned a pearl necklace before (but I am very well known for wearing pearl like accessories) along with my fair skin, this necklace is everything I have been looking for.

Details:

The pearl is set on a 925 sterling silver pendant and strung on a 45cm 925 sterling silver chain. The grading standard used is the AAA-A Grading System.

  • Pearl Type - Freshwater Pearls
  • Colour - White
  • Overtone - Pink
  • Shape - Drop
  • Lustre - Exceptional (AAA Grade)
  • Surface - 95% Flawless (AAA Grade)

You can purchase this necklace at 'Naked Pearls' by clicking right here or you can simply browse the site.

I will be wearing this at several very large events I have coming up within the next month or two, and I can't wait. I also feel fantastic that I am supporting such a local Australian company that truly deserves more attention.

All prices are listed on the website and are true to quality.

Until next time,
Maddie

Ever thought about stepping up your fashion 'game' but putting a stop to those thoughts because you simply don't have enough money to be fashionable? Or to even express yourself through clothes? Well then, this is fantastic news for you!

I was thinking the same thing until I was given the opportunity to work with DFO Jindalee in South Brisbane. I visited on Friday after work and it was my first visit, it was practically empty and man did I have a fantastic time with NO worries, no slow 'mall' walkers and no lines.

My budget was only $100 and I aimed to get almost a full outfit, which I achieved! The outfit is so versatile, I can switch and change pieces to wear for home and for work (very professional and teacher appropriate with a change of shoes and pants).

My favourite piece of this outfit has to be my first purchase (ever) from Portmans! So exciting. I can never normally afford to shop at Portmans on such a tight budget, but this new season bright yellow jacket was a steal, considering it was $10 less than it is in the non outlet stores and online. DFO YOU LIFE CHANGERS!

The top I purchased was a measly $10 & the shoes just $5 from Factorie and Cotton On! Always amazing places for bargains, but at DFO you basically feel like you're stealing the clothes at those prices.

I can't wait for my next shop at DFO Jindalee, I am incredibly impressed at how budget friendly it is. I hope this helped you guys in some way!

As always,
Maddie

Hello Beautiful, hard working people!

So today is the day I break some awesome news to you all and I am so excited. After seeing huge success from other ladies on Instagram of whom have created incredibly popular weekly hashtag challenges, I have decided to do the same thing.

I have been completely obsessed with the recent 'stripes' trend and it has been a perfect trend at work (kids love stripes) however I wanted to do a challenge that we could do on the weekend and not feel pressured about getting a shot up during the week. SOOOO....

Introducing #stripesonsunday I don't believe this has been done before, and if it has - whoops! But I am really driven to make this a fun and sucessful challenge where we can all join together in our love of fashion and (of course) stripes.

If you're keen to join in, thank you! But if you are keen to join in and can't think of what to wear for the first week of #stripesonsunday don't panic. I've got your back girl.

Ideas:

2.  Meeting a girlfriend at the cinema and still want to look classy? Try this stunning dress from Ally Fashion!

Yes, Yes I know I have raved about this a lot in the last year or so, but I am back to rave about it again. That is what happens when you come across a product you love.. right?

What is is?

Indeed Labs Nanoblur - The original blurring cream

How to use it

The fun thing about this product as it can be worn without, applied under, mixed with or over makeup! It is an incredibly unique product and very versatile which is why I like it.

Another fun  fact that I discovered is that it can also be mixed in with other moisturisers for drier skin types or a dewier look.

How I use it

I mix the Nanoblur into my moisturiser as my skin is incredibly dry due to the change in weather recently, this creates a flawless, almost HD base for my makeup and it completely softens the look of any of my fine lines and wrinkles (I'm talking about those smile lines ladies).

 More feedback

I love this product so much for a flawless looking face, I actually introduced my dad to it and gave him one of my (many) tubes. This product is colourless and therefore it is ideal for both men and women. My dad has had years of damage done to his skin from being on an Aircraft Carrier flight deck in hours of sun, wind and rain in the middle of the ocean for the majority of his life. This product COMPLETELY changed his outlook on 'using creams' and he loves how it reduces the appearance of his fine lines and wrinkles.

I would recommend this product to people of all ages, even though it claims to be a product marketed at the older generation. It really does give your face an HD effect, it's perfect to use before taking the perfect selfie!

Indeed Labs has really been a brand I have found myself reaching more and more for this year and truly believe it's because of the amazing results all of their products seem to create (and possibly because I've aged about ten years from just 6 months of teaching?).

This month I have been trialling a few of their products, such as the 'Exfoliator' and a lot of you guys have been asking me how I actually use it and here's how.

How to use

How you use the product is purely up to you, however it must be mixed. You can mix it in either with your favourite cleanser or body wash, or you can simply use water. How cool is that? Use as MUCH or as LITTLE as you want, the level of exfoliation in Indeed Lab's words is 'completely up to you!'

How I used it and my thoughts

My face has been the worst it has been in 2 years since coming off of my acne medication so I have been using it ever so gently on my face, as well as my legs as I have constant 'jean  rash' from this colder weather. After just a week of receiving and using this product, my face is now soft, smooth and glowing. My acne marks and redness have all but vanished into thin air and my skin is almost re-newed and fresh!

Overall, although this product might appear scary at first, it's a win win in my books. As long as you know how to use it correctly, you'll have an almost 'Regenerated Doctor Who' type experience!

Make sure you check out the rest of their range at http://www.beautyhq.com.au

Hello Gorgeous Girls,

I wanted to get back into my fashion posts and I've been putting it off and off because of work and reporting (can you believe that I've been a full time teacher for 6 months now?) but I refuse to put it off for any longer.

So here I am, back with my first fashion post of 2015 and it's one I thought many more bloggers here in Australia would have done, but I haven't been able to find anything about this ANYWHERE. Shock. Horror.

Yes, you've got it! The top 5 coats (or should I say my top 5 coats) for winter here in Australia. As a teacher, who needs to dress professionally, but warm, I have been on the hunt for the perfect winter warmers.

Here are my picks:

1. The BOOHOO Tory Duster Coat in Blue

2. ASOS Ultimate Slim Coat in Mint

3.  Paint it Red Oversized Blue Coat - I can no longer find this being sold at any shops. Try Myers!

4.  Pretty Women Coat Quirky Circus

5. SUPRE Runaway Anorak

The clear winner has to be the BOOHOO Duster at just $40! It's a gorgeous periwinkle colour and so stand out in this gloomy weather! It may not keep you warm in the Snow, but in an Australian winter, it's the perfect coat all round.
